American Horticultural Society creates new award for influential horticultural professionals in early stages of career

Since 1953, the American Horticultural Society’s Great American Gardeners Awards program has annually recognized individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to horticulture. Most of these are aimed at candidates who have a long track record of outstanding work.

This year, the AHS will add the Emerging Horticultural Professional Award to its roster of regularly offered awards. Its purpose is to bring recognition to accomplished younger leaders in horticulture.

In addition to this new award, 10 other Great American Gardeners Awards will be offered, such as the Luther Burbank Award for outstanding plant breeders; the Jane L. Taylor Award for youth gardening leaders; and the AHS’s most prestigious honor, the Liberty Hyde Bailey Award, given for significant lifetime achievements in multiple horticultural fields.

Nominations for the 2017 awards are now being accepted until Wed., ug. 31, 2016.

For a complete list of awards and a nomination form, please visit the AHS website at www.ahs.org/awards.
