Fall apiary management techniques to be discussed Thu., Aug. 18 in Covington Township, Pa.

Learn fall apiary management techniques at a workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thu., Aug. 18 at the Lackawanna College Environmental Education Center, 93 MacKenzie Road, Covington Township, Pennsylvania.

This workshop is designed to support the beekeeper regarding what to expect and look for during autumn and the coming winter, and how to prepare the apiary for over-winter survival. 

Topics will include hive preparation, honeybee food stores and proactive feeding, various measures of hive protection, colony checks during winter, and a review of the apiary calendar. 

The LCEEC apiary will be utilized as an instructional model. 

Cost is $100 for the spring/summer series of 5 classes or $25 for individual classes. 

Registration is limited and pre-registration is required.
