Rutgers Cooperative Extensions are now accepting master gardener applications

The Rutgers Cooperative Extensions in Bergen, Passaic and Morris counties are now accepting applications for their 2016-2017 master gardeners’ classes.

Every week the classes offer a guest lecturer from Rutgers on a wide range of horticultural topics, which include, soil, nutrient management, turf, plant diseases, insects, botany, plant propagation, trees, flowers and pruning.

Here’s information on how you can sign up for this coming year’s classes in all three counties:

--The Bergen County program is scheduled to begin on Oct. 7. They will meet weekly from 10 a.m. to noon Fridays at 1 Bergen County Plaza in Hackensack. The classes will run from October thru mid-June, approximately 100 hours of education. The volunteerism part of the class will begin by late March. The cost of the program is $250, payable at the time of the personal interview in early September. --The Passaic County’s classes will meet every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Police Academy, 214 Oldham Road, Wayne, beginning on Sept. 8 and ending in May. The fee, for nearly 70 hours of training, is $300. For an application, go to www.passaic.njaes.rutgers.edu/ and for more details, call 973-305-5748. The deadline for class registration is Aug. 22.

--Morris County’s training will start Sept. 12 and end early May. The class will meet Monday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Morris County Extension Office, 550 W. Hanover Ave., Morristown.Call 973-285-8307 for exact fee, an application or additional information.
