The Rutgers Master Gardeners of Essex County are offering March workshops

Eager to expand their programming locations from their Presby Memorial Iris Garden site in Upper Montclair, the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Essex County is now offer additional programs in the Maplewood/South Orange area.

Everything you need to plan your garden for the season will be discussed 7 p.m. Wed., March 22 at the 1978 Maplewood Arts Center, 1978 Springfield Ave., Maplewood. This session will focus on seed starting, succession planting, three season gardening, companion plants, and space allocation.

A container vegetable gardening program will be held 10 a.m. Sat., March 25 at Garibaldi Hall, 621A Eagle Rock Ave., Roseland. Experts will introduce novice and experienced gardeners alike to the benefits and techniques of growing vegetables in containers. Topics will include container and soil selection, vegetables that thrive in containers, irrigation, fertilization, dealing with pests and using replanting techniques to increase yields. The class will also include the preparation and planting of do-it-yourself self-watering containers.
